MORE ABOUT US
Our Story
Maggie McDowell grew up in Boise, Idaho and has a deep love and respect for the area. Maggie left home at the age of 18 to find adventure else where. She traveled with the world renown group Up with People and then moved to Breckenridge, Colorado to give the ski town life a try. After five years, an Associates of Arts degree, and countless powder days, it was time to try something new.Maggie then moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to pursue a job in the yachting industry. With a love for attention to detail, coordinating logistics, cleaning, cooking, and organizing - this job was her calling! She traveled all over the East Coast of the USA and through the Bahamas and Caribbean. In the time between boat jobs, she took the time to explore many parts of Asia, Europe and even lived in New Zealand for some time.
That brings us to the here and now of Koru Concepts. "Koru" is a word derived from the native people of New Zealand, the Maoris. In its direct translation, it means "loop" or "coil". This is inspired from their native plant, the Silver Fern. As the Silver Fern grows, it starts as a coil then slowly unravels itself into a beautiful fern. New Zealanders use this design in many of their art forms, especially tattoos. It symbolizes new beginnings and personal growth.
Maggie believes that growth and new beginnings are found in clearing out your space and making it yours again. So often a fresh coat of paint, a new color scheme, a purge of old items and a deep clean can all provide a type of fresh start that many of us need.
With years of experience painting as a side job and the meticulous training of specialized cleaning and organizing on private yachts, this is exactly Maggie's calling in life.
Maggie's approach to all services starts with kindness and compassion. It's not easy asking for help and some of the things you may need help with are sensitive and difficult to deal with. Many clients are thrilled to have a person with such understandings and feel like they have a new friend when the job is done.
